Teaching

Emerson’s teaching artistry can be summed up in one quote from Augusto Boal’s seminal Games for Actors and Non-Actors, “[Artists] should help others stimulate inside themselves the artists that lie within, under-developed and timid as they may be…the delicate sensibility that has been blunted".”

Everyone’s an artist until the rent is due. Emerson seeks to awaken the artist within everyone, and refocus on the good, the true, and the beautiful in ourselves and each other. Through theatre games and the community that comes with collaborative play, students learn social and emotional intelligence, and gain valuable tools to take agency in their lives.

Emerson trains as a Teaching Artist under Suzy PetchEam at the Stella Adler Arts Justice Division (an organization which brings theatre to NYC schools, rehabilitation facilities, and the Department of Corrections), and is a Teaching Artist with Bloom Performing Arts.
